IPSE: Internships in Public Science Education, University of Wisconsin - Madison

Apply to be an IPSE Intern

UW-Madison and Discovery World Museum in Milwaukee have paid internships available for graduate students as part of a program funded by the National Science Foundation, Internships in Public Science Education (IPSE). The IPSE Program is a great way to learn about exciting research advances in nanotechnology while "Exploring the Nanoworld" and working with Discovery World Museum and UW personnel to create museum exhibit prototypes.

Opportunities include:

  • Learning about exhibit development
  • Creating and testing a museum exhibit prototype
  • Learning about assessment and evaluation strategies in informal science education

All majors/disciplines are welcome. No particular expertise is required; our staff will provide training.

Position: graduate student hourly position
(10 hours per week at $16.50/hour)

When: 2004-2005 academic year with the possibility of continuing into the summer

Details: Interns are required to enroll in the Delta course Journalism880: Informal Science Education for Scientists: A Practicum, Thursdays, 5-7pm

Where: University of Wisconsin-Madison and Discovery World Museum, Milwaukee

Internship in Public Science Education (IPSE) will require major time commitments during the semester. The following short list describes the major time responsibilities of an intern.

  1. Most interns work 10 hours a week, mostly during the week and some weekends.
  2. The Internship is in collaboration with Discovery World Museum and will require travel to Milwaukee.
