Spring 2004 Syllabus

General Expectations

  • Attend all weekly team meetings.

  • Lead your team activity on at least six different days. Some examples include visiting a middle school for a day or doing a teacher training workshop.

    Please obtain teacher contact information from Wendy.

    • Contact teacher, introduce yourself, and your activity and the relevant science principles and science standards; request possible visit dates. Sometimes teacher may request you to lead activities from previous years. In that case plan to visit the same classroom a second time to present your activity.

    • Once the date is set, plan logistics, how many classes/times you will present, gather materials/supplies. Email ipse@chem.wisc.edu your visit dates.

    • In-class videotaping when you present your team activity for the first time.

    • Teacher feedback formÑtake physical copy to the presentation and email another copy after the presentation

    • Online Presentation Survey; give an update during weekly team meetings.

  • General outreach activities:

    • On the Road
    • Wisconsin Society of Science Teachers (Mandatory)
    • Secret Saturday Labs at DW (February 21 on Nanotechnology - Mandatory)
    • Science Saturday
    • Science Exposition
    • RAP session at DW
  • Take a leadership role in one additional activity.

    • Please set up an initial meeting with Aura to discuss details and responsibilities.
    • Draft a plan of action regarding your task and set up a time to meet with IPSE staff and discuss it.
  • Write an article (2,000 words) for a general audience about your team topic. Due May 3, 2004
