Through generous funding provided by the National Science Foundation, the University of Wisconsin MRSEC hosts two undergraduate summer research programs.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC) and the Nanoscale Science and Engineering Center (NSEC) host the following Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) programs: REU in Nanotechnology, REU in Chemistry and Chemical and Biological Engineering , REU in The Chemistry of Materials of Renewable Energy . This year, the programs will run from May 29, 2012 to August 3, 2012. Participants will spend 10 weeks conducting research in an area of engineering, physics, chemistry, science education or public policy. The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience-Research Experience for Undergraduates (SURE-REU) program provides students with opportunities that build on their interest in science and engineering careers. Participating students conduct a ten-week research project in an area of engineering or the physical sciences under the direction of university faculty members and work as members of laboratory research teams. Students are exposed to other research available on campus through weekly meetings and faculty seminars, and have opportunities to visit industry laboratories. Planned social activities are also available. At the end of the program, participants present their work in an open seminar. This year, the program will run from May 29, 2012 through August 3, 2012.
